When you open the program Microsoft Word, a font and font size are chosen for you. Usually, the default font is Calibri or Times New Roman, and the default font size is either 11 or 12 point. If you want to change the font attributes, find your version of Microsoft Word on the list below and follow the instructions.

Right-click on the style you wish to alter from the Styles section of the ribbon and click on Modify in the menu that appears. Note: If you don’t see the Styles section, make sure that the Home tab is selected. In the dialog box that appears, you can quickly change font properties of the header; such as face, size, and color.

How To Change Header Font In Word

  1. Make sure the toolbar is currently on the Home tab. If not, click the Home tab.
  2. In the Font section, click the Font Dialog Box Launcher (shown below).
  • A header will appear exactly the same on each page. If you make a change on one page, it will reflect on all of the pages. This is why you can't manually put in page numbers. To get to the header, double click at the top of the page. Make sure you change the font to Times New Roman size 12!
  • Here is a way you can access the headers/footers via VBA. As you can see, it's rather complicated syntax to get to something so simple:p there. Sub EditHeadersAndFooters Dim i As Long For i = 1 To ActiveDocument.Sections.Count With ActiveDocument.Sections (i).Headers (wdHeaderFooterPrimary).Range.Text = 'Foo'.Footers.
  • Replied on February 4, 2011. The Header and Footer styles are by default based on the Normal style, if you change the Normal style, this can be reflected in the Header/Footer styles. Usually most users open a new document, the default will be for the Normal style to already be attributed to the first paragraph, the user starts creating.
  1. In the Font window, change the font attributes to your liking.
  2. Click the Set As Default button.
  3. In the dialog window that opens, select the All documents based on the Normal.dotm template option and click OK.
